American Ballads and Folk Songs
Then the door swung again and my pal he stepped in,
And the look in his eyes was sure bad,
And the Big Guy, he wheeled, and the gal there, she squealed,
"Oh, for God's sake, don't shoot, Bill, that's Dad."
Now the thing that she saw was Bill reach for his draw, When the guy she called Dad drew on Bill. Dad was my pal, with his eyes on the gal, And her eyes on his gun, standin' still.
Then the big raw-boned guy, with the onery eye, Up and shot my pal dead in the door, And right there Bill Baker went back to his Maker, He won't take the advantage no more.
BILLY THE KID*
Billy was a bad man And carried a big gunj He was always after Greasers And kept 'em on the run.
He shot one every morning For to make his morning meal. And let a white man sass him, He was shore to feel his steel.
